A man on his 30s identified as Amadi Nyathu has been arrested for allegedly killing his own mother using an iron rod because he thought she was bewitching his sick daughter.
According to police, the man from Mzilikazi suburb in Bulawayo was told by members of an apostolic sect that his 79-year-old mother was doing black magic against his daughter.
A neighbor who spoke on condition of anonymity said Nyathi allegedly caught his mother conducting some rituals at the family home at number R79 Mzilikazi.
According to local media the man caught his mother – a woman whose name could not be established immediately – doing rituals using her undergarment.
This action was one of the reasons why members of the sect blamed the woman for the illness of her granddaughter.
Nyathi who is said to be in his 30s was arrested and detained at Mzilikazi Police station and is expected to appear in court on a charge of murder soon.
